Personal Statement

The University of Richmond is not something you can completely describe with words, you have to feel it and live through it. You should come here to see how nice the campus really is, how devoted and easy-to-approach professors are, and how open and friendly the student community is.

My experience as an exchange student at Richmond exceeded all of my expectations. It greatly helped me set priorities for my future career in academic legal studies in European constitutional law.

Three years after I left Richmond, on my record you can find seven international academic conferences, membership in two professional associations (Central and East European International Studies Association and Russian International Studies Association), President of the Russian Federation Scholarship for outstanding results in academic research and studies in 2003–2004 and 2004–2005, more that 40 pages of articles in scholarly journals. A LLD in European Law will hopefully be the next step. I think that to a large extent the University of Richmond is responsible for all this.

Aside from my university studies, I have always been interested in protection of human rights, so since 2002 I have been involved in activities of regional and national non-governmental associations, as a trainer in intercultural and human rights education. The most exciting project for me now is the distant education course for NGO activists in human rights protection. Truly, it took all my knowledge and determination to develop course materials and train about 100 people, but still it is more than rewarding to feel that you bring change to the life of your home country.
