Michael Warchol manages communications and events for the Office of International Education (OIE). In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy for the office—reaching out to University of Richmond students, faculty, and staff, along with members of the greater Richmond community. Michael also collaborates regularly with his colleagues in the OIE and with many other faculty and staff members from around campus to organize events that promote international understanding and campus-wide internationalization.
Michael earned a B.A. from Brevard College (North Carolina) and a M.A. from George Mason University. Prior to joining the OIE team, his work focused on the promotion of study abroad and language immersion programs in Russia, Ukraine, Southeast Europe, and Central Asia. He has extensive experience in marketing, communications, and graphic design (both print and web), having worked with such prominent organizations as American Councils for International Education, the Peace Corps, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
A Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Ukraine), Michael speaks Russian and enjoys topics related to cross-cultural communication and cultural integration. At home, he enjoys spending time with his wife, toddler, and newborn. As time allows, Michael also enjoys carpentry, gardening, photography, running, travel, and playing the euphonium.
