Health
Insurance
All international
students on non-immigrant visas are required to purchase the
health
insurance plan offered by the University of Richmond. There are no exceptions
to this policy.
Students may wish to share this information with their parents/legal guardians.
Exchange visitors on J-1 visas are required to purchase
this plan in order to meet the State Department's health insurance
requirements. Exceptions will be made for scholars coming from sponsoring
agencies that have a group plan to meet the J-1 requirements or proof of
current insurance that meets the J-1 requirements. A list of requirements
can be found on the
State Department's website for exchange visitors.
Americans living abroad, dual
citizens, and permanent residents are not eligible for this plan
and will not be enrolled. For information about the domestic

For 2006-07 and 2008-09,
United States Fire Insurance Company was the underwriter and Global
Benefits, LLC was the claims administrator. Any claims
dating from July 1, 2006 should be sent to

For the 2009-10 year, the cost will be
$101 per month for international students and scholars.
Coverage
will be underwritten by Pan American Life Insurance Company.

Immunizations
All incoming international students must
submit
a Health History Form with their application.
If you did not receive this form, you may
download
it here. This form must be returned to the Student
Health Center by the specified
date or you will not be allowed to register for courses
or access your residence hall! For more information about the

Safety
All new
international students should sign up for the
UR Alert system and read carefully all information about
emergency plans and procedures on the website, especially the
current status of the University’s response to the
H1N1 flu (swine flu). This system and the University
of Richmond's emergency procedures will be reviewed during a
mandatory orientation information session on safety in the
United States.
Travel
The University of Richmond
does not offer insurance for liability, trip cancellation, theft,
and lost baggage. Students should purchase this in their home country prior to coming
