Internships- Australia
About the Program
Spend 8 weeks working
in Australia, one of the largest countries in the Pacific Rim and a world
leader in business, science, and communications. Placements are available
in Sydney and Brisbane in virtually all major fields, including business,
communications, politics, the arts, the sciences, and social services.
Professional development internships are custom-designed based on the
student’s interests and educational experience. The program is open to
students in all years, including first-years and those who have recently graduated.
The University
administers this program through
Australearn,
a U.S.-based non-profit organization that conducts study and work abroad
programs in Australia and New Zealand at the university level. Australearn
secures all placement and housing assignments.
Placement Areas
Placements are
available in all fields except for the medical and veterinary sciences. Areas include
finance & accounting, marketing, communications, education, the arts,
health sciences, sports medicine, politics, and the sciences.
Academic Credit
Students who wish to earn University of Richmond credit need to make arrangements
with a University of Richmond faculty member who will evaluate the academic
component of the internship experience. The credit may be in the form
of an Internship or independent study, depending on the arrangement made
between the student and the faculty member. This agreement will be
formalized in a learning contract.
Students are usually required
to write an analytic journal documenting their experience. The Office of International Education
has a list of faculty who have sponsored students for credit in the past.
If you wish to receive credit, you
must make
arrangements with a University of Richmond faculty member prior
to departing for the program. Arrangements to receive
credit arranged after completion of the program will not be
considered.
University of Richmond credit is not available
to non-UR students who participate in the program. Non-UR
students must make arrangements with their home institutions to
receive credit.
