Internships- England

About the Program

London is one of Europe's largest cities and one of the major financial and commercial hubs of Europe. It is also one of the world's leading cultural and artistic centers, unrivaled for the excellence and diversity of its theatres, concert halls, museums, and art galleries. Although London is a large cosmopolitan metropolis, it is surprisingly easy to settle into, get around, and get to know, thanks to an exceptional public transportation system. All of these elements combine to make London a perfect location for the University of Richmond Summer Internship Program.

Students must have sophomore standing or above at the time of their internship.

Academic Credit

There is a mandatory course component to go with the internship placement to achieve a balance between the academic and practical aspects of the experience. Students will spend 2 1/2 to 3 days per week in the internship, and the other 2 weekdays taking a British Life & Culture course and other study and research related activities, including field trips and site visits.  Weekly attendance and all coursework, including a final paper, are required, even if the student is not receiving UR credit.

Students who wish to earn University of Richmond credit need to make arrangements with a University of Richmond faculty member who will evaluate the academic component of the internship experience. The credit may be in the form of an Internship or Independent Study, depending on the arrangement made between the student and the faculty member. This agreement will be formalized in a learning contract. Students are usually required to write an analytic journal documenting their experience.  The Office of International Education has a list of faculty who have sponsored students for credit in the past.

If you wish to receive credit, you MUST make arrangements with a UR faculty member PRIOR to departing for the program. Arrangements to receive credit after completion of the program will not be considered.

*UR Credit is NOT available to non-UR students who participate in the program. Non-UR students must make arrangements with their home institution to receive credit.
