Internships- Germany

About the Program

A vibrant European capital, Berlin offers opportunities for internships in a variety of fields. Students will work for 6 weeks in May and June at a placement site under the supervision of a native German speaker. For an additional cost, students have the option of staying in Berlin to participate in the UR language and culture program.

Students must have sophomore standing or above at the time of their internship, a grade point average of 3.0 or better, and 300-400 level proficiency in both spoken and written German (usually 2 years of college-level German).

Students may improve their knowledge of German by taking an introductory language course of four weeks preceding the internship. For more information click here or email inquiry@studienforum-berlin.de.

Placement Areas

Placement areas include politics, public administration, business, law, information technology, communications, tourism, museum studies, music, theater, architecture, health sciences, and social service.

Academic Credit

Students who wish to earn University of Richmond credit need to make arrangements with a University of Richmond faculty member who will evaluate the academic component of the internship experience. The credit may be in the form of an Internship or Independent Study, depending on the arrangement made between the student and the faculty member. This agreement will be formalized in a learning contract. Students are usually required to write an analytic journal documenting their experience.  The Office of International Education has a list of faculty who have sponsored students for credit in the past.

If you wish to receive credit, you mustmake arrangements with a University of Richmond faculty member prior to departing for the program.  Arrangements to receive credit arranged after completion of the program will not be considered.

University of Richmond credit is not available to non-UR students who participate in the program.  Non-UR students must make arrangements with their home institutions to receive credit.
