Peer Advisor

The Peer Advisor is a University of Richmond student who has been trained to assist you in exploring your options for studying abroad and can speak to you in a peer-to-peer environment. She can help you with questions such as:

  • How do I choose a program?
  • What kinds of things should I consider as I prepare to study abroad?
  • How will my credit transfer?
  • How much will it cost?
  • How do I apply?
  • What is it really like to spend a semester or year abroad?
  • How can I talk to other students who have studied abroad?

The 2017-2018 Peer Advisor is Isabella Gómez-Torres, an international student from Venezuela who’s also studied abroad for a semester. She undertook a gap year before committing to the University of Richmond in 2014 and spent six months in Paris, France to learn French. In January 2016, she travelled to Havana, Cuba with peers from her SSIR program ’Salsa Meets Jazz’ to explore Afro-Cuban music and dance traditions. And in Spring 2016, she studied at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain and participated in an internship program for the last three months of her stay. Isabella’s study abroad experiences have made her more interested in the international development field and increased her appreciation for cultural diversity. As a Study Abroad Peer Advisor she hopes to raise awareness about the benefits of an international education and support Richmond students in making decisions that best fit them.
