International Education Study Abroad Scholarships

The Office of International Education awards study abroad scholarships based on merit and financial need. Undergraduate and law students participating in select UR semester/year study abroad programs are eligible and encouraged to apply. If applicable, awards will be included in the student's existing financial aid package. The award amount varies depending on need, merit, and available funding. Awards are not guaranteed, but if selected as a recipient, the minimum award amount is $500.

Only students accepted to Richmond exchange/direct enrollment partner universities are eligible to apply for this award.

Other factors considered for this award include:

  • Academic performance (minimum 3.0 GPA; must be maintained prior to study abroad)
  • Majors underrepresented in study abroad
  • Students with financial need
  • First-generation college student (neither parent completed a college degree)

Service Requirement

Award recipients will be required to promote international education and study abroad at the University upon their return to campus by conducting a presentation targeting those who have not yet studied abroad or by helping at an International Education event. Samples of service requirements include:

  • Represent their host institution/program at the annual Study Abroad Fair
  • Participate in a country-specific orientation event or a re-entry orientation event
  • Represent the Office of International Education along with a staff member at recruitment events
  • Conduct a presentation on study abroad for a class, at a Greek organization, at a student club meeting, at the Osher Institute, etc. (International Education will provide a template to follow and the final product must be pre-approved by International Education)

Awardees will be required to submit a description of the event and the sign-in sheet from the event to the OIE. Students who do not complete the service requirement will be at risk of having their award revoked.
