Russia is a land of enormous geopolitical importance, superb natural and cultural resources, and fascinating paradoxes. This six-week summer program provides a unique opportunity to live in fabled imperial capital of St. Petersburg (“Venice of the North”), while taking courses that deepen your understanding of Russia today: The Soviet legacy and post-Soviet transformations. Open to all majors and all areas of interest.

Language prerequisite: at least one year of college-level Russian language.

Costs do not include airfare and are subject to change without notice as a result of fluctuations in currency values and other factors.

What's included?

In addition to the academic program, the fee includes orientation, in-country support from SRAS, dormitory-style accommodations, cultural programs and excursions in St. Petersburg and Novgorod, a week-long trip to Moscow, visa support, airport transfer, and in country transportation.

Academic Environment

In addition to an intensive language course, UR students will join students and faculty from the University of Sewanee.

Scholarship: UR students are eligible to apply for the Holt Summer Study Abroad Scholarship. Selected recipients will receive approximately $2,000 toward the cost of an approved UR Summer Study Abroad program.
