Cuba: Academics and Athletics

May 24 - June 21, 2020

Addressing the needs of both students and athletes, this program takes your training into Havana, the largest city in Cuba. Founded in 1519, Havana is the political and economic hub of the country, and boasts a vibrant arts scene and rich historybalancing academic, cultural, and athletic activities. With a full-immersion language program, participants are quickly able to apply their lessons to real life in the houses, stores, and stadiums of Cuba.

Classes 

Students take both courses for a total of 2 units for the program.

Completion or placement out of LAIS 151 or 121 required.

Cost

$6,100

 Note: The group will fly together round trip from Richmond to Havana. Costs do not include airfare and are subject to change without notice as a result of fluctuations in currency values and other factors. Estimated cost of flight to Cuba - $700. 

What's included?

Students stay in private accomodations (casa particulares), shared with another UR student with a private bathroom. Accomodations have Wi-fi available and are within walking distance from the CIEE Havana Study Center. Program participants may have the opportunity to attend various Cuban amateur and/or professional sporting events in Havana.

All meals are included. 

Program participants will have the opportunity to study Spanish at CIEE’s Havana Study Center, and train in a private gym, as well as attending local cultural activities and sporting events.

Students will have 24/7 emergency support. Daily transportation will be provided.

Scholarship: UR students are eligible to apply for the Holt Summer Study Abroad Scholarship. Selected recipients will receive approximately $2,000 toward the cost of an approved UR Summer Study Abroad program.

Student athletes who are unable to study abroad during the academic year may also apply for a Weinstein Summer Grant to help cover airfare costs for summer international study.
