Health and Safety

All incoming international students must submit a Health History form with their application. This form must be returned by the specified date or you will not be allowed to register for courses or gain access to your residence hall.

Learn more about the immunization requirements listed on the Health History form or review important dates and checklists for all new students.

Health Insurance
International degree-seeking students on non-immigrant visas and all visiting students (regardless of their immigration status) are automatically enrolled and billed for the health insurance plan offered by the University. Exceptions to this policy can only be made for degree-seeking students who meet certain criteria. Students may wish to share this information with their parents/legal guardians.

Student Health Center
The Student Health Center offers a comprehensive program in health education and maintenance, as well as treatment for illness and injury. Their staff includes board-certified family practice physicians, a nurse practitioner, and registered nurses experienced in the care of young adults. Please note that the Student Health Center hours are different during summer breaks.

The University takes a very personal approach to disability services. The university has a team of staff including members of our Housing, Health Center, Counseling Services, Facilities Department, Registrar, and the appropriate Dean's Office. The university tries to adequately prepare for each individual in need of an accommodation.

All new international students should sign up for the UR Alert system and carefully review all information about emergency plans and procedures. The UR Alert system and the University's emergency procedures will be reviewed during a mandatory international orientation information session on safety in the United States.

Travel Insurance
The University does not offer insurance for liability, trip cancellation, theft, and lost baggage. Students should purchase this in their home country prior to coming to the University.
