Summer International Internships

The University of Richmond offers international internship experiences during the summer months to traditional undergraduate students. When interning overseas during the academic year or semester is not an option, a summer experience offers the opportunity to gain international work experience in a more compact timeframe.

International Internship Provider Application Details

Deadlines for internship applications vary by program. Review program deadlines carefully.

Explore internship options and locations
Visit the internship destination website and select the "Apply" button
Indicate your school as "University of Richmond"
When prompted confirm your school, destination, and desired term
Complete all required sections of the application
Submit completed application with application fee (if applicable)

Summer Fellowship Funding

Summer internships abroad may be eligible for UR Summer Fellowship funding, including the Weinstein Summer Grant. Maximum awards: $4,000 UR Summer Fellowships, $3,500 for Weinstein Summer Grants. These opportunities are not available to non-UR students.

Review list of funding programs (including Weinstein Summer Grants) eligible for internships
Apply to any Fellowship programs that align with your internship goals and requirements
Weinstein Summer Grants offer an airfare supplement; complete as needed

If you plan to apply for funding, please contact Cheryl Genovese, Summer School manager, and the appropriate program contact as soon as possible to discuss options and timelines.

Register Participation with UR

Students who plan to participate in a summer internship abroad must register their participation with UR using GatewayAbroad by February 15, 2024.

Complete the application in GatewayAbroad
Click on the “Register Your Participation” button
Log into GatewayAbroad using your UR NetID and password
Complete the online registration for your program
Contact Cheryl Genovese in the Summer School Office to submit $300 deposit

To earn academic credit for your internship, you must coordinate with a Richmond faculty member and pay the standard tuition rate. Complete the Individual Instruction Course Request form and submit to the Office of the Registrar in Queally Center. Internships completed for college credit may be eligible for federal financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid office for details.
