Nuts and Bolts

It’s impossible to understand other cultures without living in them, and summer is the perfect opportunity for immersion within a shorter timeframe. As you consider a program abroad, there are other steps and considerations to make during the process, including finances, receiving academic credit, and other administrative matters.

Summer Study Abroad Student Handbook

The summer study abroad handbook is a guide for students who have been accepted to study abroad. It helps students prepare for their time abroad and includes information on:

  • Important resources and general information
  • Money matters
  • Health and safety
  • Booking flights
  • Travel checklist
  • Withdrawal policy
  • Important travel documents
  • Transportation abroad
  • Emergency resources and procedures

Contact with Faculty

The faculty leader for each program page is an important contact as you determine which program is your best match, and they will review your application and determine approval to participate. The program description features further details and contact information.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Some undergraduates who study abroad during the summer may be eligible for financial aid, including Direct Loans. Using these loans in the summer will reduce a student’s Direct Loan eligibility for the following academic year. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for details. The merit-based Holt Summer Study Abroad Scholarship awards approximately $3,000 per participant who is studying on either of these summer study abroad programs. Additional details and application are available online.

Other academic departments may also offer scholarships for summer study.
